Turn a Google Doc into a report with a table and a PDF

Import a copy of your Google Doc, use it as the source for a report, and check the finished PDF before sharing.

About 10–15 minutes to import and review; drafting and export take additional time.

You start with
A Google Doc you can access and instructions for the report or table you need.
You end with
A reviewed document, a saved revision, and a downloadable PDF.

Follow the steps

  1. Import the Google Doc into Vault

In Vault, choose Add → Import from Google Docs. Connect your Google Docs account if needed, choose the document, inspect the preview, and select Add to Vault. Scribed saves a DOCX copy.

Vault → Add → Import from Google Docs (opens in a new tab)
  2. Start a custom document

Open Documents, choose Blank page, then Fill out manually. In Document, set Type to Custom document. In Your notes → Instructions, describe the report and the table’s columns, and ask to flag any facts missing from the source.

Documents → Blank page (opens in a new tab)
  3. Attach the imported source

In Your notes, expand Context → Vault files → Add files and select the imported DOCX. Choose PDF under Formats, then select Create my draft.

Documents → Your notes → Context (opens in a new tab)
  4. Review the report and make the PDF

Check Draft references, names, numbers, and every table row against the source. Edit and Save the document. After changes, choose Make PDF and Word files, then Download → PDF, and inspect the downloaded result.

Documents → saved document → Download (opens in a new tab)

Check the result

  • Vault contains the imported DOCX copy and the document draft names its source references.
  • The saved report and table match the facts you checked.
  • The downloaded PDF contains the latest saved content and a readable table.

Before you finish

  • Import makes a copy. Changes to the original Google Doc do not automatically update the report.
  • This flow rewrites from your source; it does not promise to preserve the Google Doc’s original layout.
  • Rebuild the PDF after editing so the file you share matches your saved revision.
